Shanghai Shenhua head coach Wu Jingui has criticised Carlos Tevez for being overweight and insisted the Argentine star will not be picked for the Chinese Super League strugglers.

The 33-year-old is thought to have become the best-paid player in world football when he moved to the Chinese side last December, signing a deal worth a reported £610,000 a week.

Wu stated: "He will be informed of my tactical plans but I won't pick him right now".

"I need to be responsible to the team and to the players", said Wu.

Along with former Inter Milan midfielder Freddy Guarin, Tevez has been dropped as he is now "overweight".

Tevez though, who played for Manchester United and Manchester City, has failed to impress in Asia and has scored just twice in 14 appearances. He's not ready physically. "I have coached lots of big stars, and my players are never picked on reputation".

He has been recovering from a muscle injury in his native Argentina, but on his return to China has been told he needs to get in shape in order to play. "When you are on the pitch, if you can't play at 100%, then it is completely meaningless".
