Coutinho and Liverpool frustrated as Burnley punish dodgy defence

At the end of a week in which Liverpool also lost 5-0 at Manchester City and were held at home by Sevilla in their opening Champions League group game, Klopp was left trying to lift his frustrated team and supporters.

Within two minutes of Liverpool's trip to Turf Moor last August the wait was over as Vokes turned and fired beyond Simon Mignolet from the edge of the area, setting Burnley on their way to a 2-0 win over the Reds. "It could have been more often, of course, because with one better decision here or there then we would have had a few more".

Burnley, who could even have poached a late victor through Ben Mee, got an unexpected point to add to the four they secured at Chelsea and Tottenham.

He did trouble Burnley in central areas as Liverpool chased the victor, and also provided the equalizer for Liverpool but his shots from the left were tame yet again. Today was the weekly Jurgen Klopp news conference and he used the opportunity to justify both his current defenders and the transfer window agenda.

So, yeah...pretty much the same Liverpool you know and love.

He told reporters when quizzed on whether other options had been overlooked while pursuing Van Dijk: "No".

Will the real Philippe Coutinho please stand up?

Tarkowski thwarted Milner as he looked to volley goalwards, as it looked increasingly likely the Claret's defence would concede until Mee came agonisingly close to putting them ahead in the 80th minute with a lopping header nudge over the bar by Joel Matip.

"We believe in the players we work with, and he's another one like that".

"It's got a big new stand now and is a great place to go to and play".

This won't be the last time Liverpool dominate a match, only to be undermined by shoddy defending.

Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton is set to be sidelined "for months" after undergoing surgery on his shoulder, Clarets manager Sean Dyche said on Thursday.

And so their sole goal came from Salah.

And with Coutinho failing to find top form following his summer saga surrounding a move to Barcelona, Klopp says he needs time.

Having Sadio Mane suspended obviously isn't ideal but Klopp will have to deal without the Senegalese worldwide for the next two matches. However, it must be frustrating for Klopp to see that Liverpool can't do the same despite having excellent players at their disposal.
