But all the attention was on Women Affairs Minister, Aisha Al-Hassan, who has been the subject of media attention since a video went viral of her saying she would wouldn't support President Buhari in 2019, if former Vice President Abubakar Atiku runs for the presidency. I am not the party spokesperson.

The minister caused a stir recently when she said she would support the presidential bid of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2019 even if her principal, President Muhammadu Buhari made a decision to run.

Abdullahi said, "Since the issue of the comment she made came up, the party has not said anything regardless of what individuals might have told you because we are a party that recognises the right of her members to express their opinions". We didn't query her right to her choice of candidate in 2019.

"The minister is entitled to her opinion; but I would have saluted her if she had resigned her appointment because she can not blow hot and cold at the same time", Mrs. Amosun said at a book launch in Abeokuta.

"So, when she came, we asked her to explain to us what truly transpired and in what context she said what she said and she did offer explanations". We told her that as a senior member of the party, we expect her to exercise discretion.

The APC spokesperson however declared that the party leadership accused her of lack of discretion as he further noted that time was not ripe to engage in campaigns for any aspirant seeking elective office, until next year. "Maybe the timing was wrong and she apologised if she had put the party in any hard position", Abdullahi said.

Asked if Allhassan was advised to resign her appointment, Abdullahi said, "No".

"If this was 2018 and the people have filed their applications to say they are contesting and she now comes out and says she is supporting this person, how can that be an issue? But we are still in 2017", he said. Atiku (Abubakar) has not said he is contesting. So, that is what we mean by the timing.

She said: "Atiku is my godfather even before I joined politics".

The APC National Vice Chairman, North-west, Inuwa Abdulkadir, had chided the former vice president a few days later warning him and others to stop "misleading statements aimed at causing division within the party".
