Road closed off after 'chemical incident' causes residents to vomit

A "chemical incident" in South London is now under investigation after a number of residents in the area were reportedly rushed to hospital with symptoms including nausea and vomiting.

Emergency services were called to Alwold Crescent in Lee at 09:50 BST over fears residents were suffering reactions to an unknown chemical smell.

Scotland Yard said the incident was not believed to be crime-related.

Five fire engines, paramedics and police are all on hand to deal with the incident.

London Fire Brigade said a chemical response team was trying to establish the cause.

It is not yet known what the chemical potentially involved it.

I could see the emergency services outside my house.

"They've been rushed into hospital". He said they were investigating whether it is terror related, but told us not panic.

Reports suggest that police have started to close roads in reaction to the incident.
