Variety Talk Series: "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver". As the video of the event surfaced on social media, people started teaching Emmy, how to pronounce the name.

The star wore a striking custom-made Prabal Gurung gown on Sunday night's red carpet.

The win for McKinnon was her second in a row.

HBO's "Big Little Lies" - exploring the dark secrets of three suburban mothers - also had a big night, winning for best limited series and landing a best actress prize in a limited series or movie for first-time Emmy victor Nicole Kidman. She called domestic abuse a "complicated, insidious disease".

"Sometimes, when you're acting you get a chance to bring a bigger message". Atwood, 77, said "One takeaway would be "never believe it can never happen here" which was one of the premises that I used for the book".

"It is a complicated, insidious disease". It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know. It is filled with shame and secrecy.

"I really did. I don't really remember much of it". The veteran actor has now won a total of six Emmys.

Indeed, two of the series' executive producers were Kidman and her co-star Reese Witherspoon. "I think the world would be a better place if more women were in charge". It's not only women in front of the camera, it's women behind the cameras. It's what I'm most interested in as a woman-shows that are about women.

But "Feud" was edged out by another woman-centric drama, "Big Little Lies", which followed a group of mothers who each have secrets threatening to crash down upon her.

Meanwhile, the long-running sketch series "Saturday Night Live" won nine Emmys, including an award for actor Alec Baldwin for portraying US President Donald Trump.

F*ck yeah, "The Handmaid's Tale" had a great night at the 2017 Emmy Awards.

"In these insane times his life even as an old man reminds us what leadership and courage in government really looks like", the actor said. "It was after the first season in 1976".

Author Margaret Atwood was also in attendance, and said her writing was a warning for all of us, especially given our current political situation. Netflix had three dramas nominated on Sunday - "The Crown", "House of Cards" and "Stranger Things" - but "The Handmaid's Tale" won acclaim from Emmy voters. Both speeches were honest and short but also extremely deserving.

"There were so many times I presented something or pitched something", Miller told reporters backstage, "and I was sure they were going to say there was no way you can do that on television".

The project, which revolves around a murder investigation, also deals with domestic violence, among other things.

Hulu's dystopian adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale won television's most prestigious prize on Sunday night, even though the streaming service has a smaller programming budget than its competitors, Netflix and Amazon.

Reed Morano was named best director for her work on the show, also her first, while series creator Bruce Miller won the Emmy for drama series writing.

But expect politics and a cheeky turn by host Stephen Colbert too. The series collected eight Emmys also including best actress (Nicole Kidman), best supporting actress (Laura Dern) and best supporting actor Alexander Skarsgard, who, in accepting his trophy, thanked his colleagues for letting him be "one of the girls".
