On the heels of its September 10 debut, the premium cable network has renewed the '70's-set drama from The Wire and Treme collaborators George Pelacanos and David Simon for a second season. "We knew the theme and goal of the story, but there are many people in the entertainment industry who might not have it told, or worse, would have told it for the wrong reasons".

Deuce creators David Simon and George Pelecanos previously collaborated on HBO's The Wire, a show that explored Baltimore's drug trade.

We're only two installments into The Deuce - David Simon and George Pelecanos' chronicle of pornography's mercurial rise in NYC during the 70s - but we here at BMD are already big, big fans (just check out my reviews of the Pilot and "Show and Prove").

The eight-episode first season premiered September 10 on the premium channel. It seems the reaction to those two episodes was apparently good enough for HBO, because today they announced that the show has been renewed: The Deuce season 2 is officially happening. "And they don't scare". It is executive produced by Pelecanos, Simon, Nina Kostroff Noble and James Franco. The show chronicles the rise of porn culture in NY from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the sex trade from the moment when both a cultural revolution in American sexuality and new legal definitions of obscenity created a billion-dollar industry. "We're ready to get back to work with our incredible cast and crew". The series, which stars James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, explores the rise of the porn industry in NY.
