Maurizio Sari's team preserved its ideal start to the season with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Lazio, to join Juventus at the top of the table, on 15 points. Stefan de Vrij had given Lazio a halftime lead but Kalidou Koulibaly, Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens with a stunner turned the match on its head as Napoli roared back.

Striker Dries Mertens is one of the main reasons that Napoli are so unsafe going forward, with the Belgium worldwide hitting five goals in four games this season as he looks to build upon his 28-goal return last campaign.

Napoli have won their opening five games of a Serie A season for the first time since 1987-88 when they were reigning champions and their attack featured Diego Maradona. Fiorentina had Milan Badelj sent off.

Inter Milan, who were held by Bologna on Tuesday, trail the top two by two points while AC Milan are fourth after beating SPAL 2-0.

Alfred Gomis felled Nikola Kalinic for the first spot-kick, which Ricardo Rodriguez tucked away after 25 minutes.

The visitors have started the season in stellar form, winning all four of their games and scoring a huge 15 times in the process, conceding just twice.

Roma are seventh with nine points, although they have played a game less than all the sides ahead of them.

Atalanta made short work of lowly Crotone with a thumping 5-1 victory.

Torino are up to fifth after a 3-2 win at Udinese.
