SL in UAE: Sri Lanka Test squad picked, Mathews ruled out

The 30-year-old suffered the injury during a training session on Tuesday following which he underwent a scan on the following day which revealed a strain in his calf muscle.

Both batsmen Sadeera Samarawickrama and Roshen Silva are expected to make their debuts in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Sri Lanka will play two Test matches against Pakistan - at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi from September 28 followed by the second game, where Sri Lanka will play its inaugural pink-ball game from October 6 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

While Dinesh Chandimal will continue leading the side, Lahiru Thirimanne will serve as his deputy.

Sri Lanka squad: Dinesh Chandimal (capt), Lahiru Thirimanne (vice-capt), Dimuth Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Roshen Silva, Niroshan Dickwella, Rangana Herath, Lakshan Sandakan, Dilruwan Perera, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Gamage. In August previous year, Mathews tore his calf muscle during the fourth ODI against Australia which subsequently ruled him out for the remainder of the tour.

Sri Lanka's former skipper Angelo Mathews was ruled out of the first Test against Pakistan next week due to injury, the cricket board said on Wednesday.

The two sides will play ODI and T20 series after the three Tests.
