A child has died in a hot vehicle near Burnhamthorpe and Mill Road near the Mississauga and Etobicoke line, police say.

Emergency officials said they were called to an apartment building near Mill Road and Burnhamthorpe Road East after 1 p.m. after receiving reports the child was left in a auto for a period of time.

They say one person is in custody and the investigation continues.

The superintendent broke the window, pulled the child out and called an ambulance, Ormsby said.

Hopkinson declined to provide a gender or age for the person in police custody. A red Hyundai with broken windows was seen parked in the lot with a broken window and a auto seat in the back.

"Once on scene, the first responders contacted police and told us a child had been left in a vehicle", Const. David Hopkinson said Thursday, explaining the incident was immediately deemed "suspicious".
