2 police officers shot in incident on Elm Street in New Haven

Two police officers in New Haven, Connecticut were shot while responding to an earlier shooting incident Saturday morning, city officials tell CBS Connecticut.

The shooting occurred on Elm Street between Orchard Street and Sherman Avenue.

Authorities say two police officers have been shot in CT.

Police responded to the 600 block of Elm Street around 10:30 a.m. following reports of a woman who had been shot, WFSB reported.

New Haven Police Chief Anthony Campbell said that the officers were injured during a response to a domestic incident.

After the woman said she was shot at a home across the street, police entered the residence where the suspect opened fire.

Hartman said Officer Pasino was grazed in the arm, and Officer Shumway was also shot in the arm.

The female victim was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital, her condition is unknown at this time. Both are expected to recover.

The area is shut down and police have ordered the public to avoid the area for safety.
