Jelena Ostapenko survived a scare as she came from behind to avoid a semi-final exit at the hands of Luksika Kumkhum in the Korea Open.

The French Open champion let the opening set slip against the world number 155 but rallied back to claim a 3-6 6-1 6-3 victory and set up a meeting with Beatriz Haddad Maia in the final. After holding in the eighth game, Ostapenko won seven in a row and sealed the 39th win of the season striking 23 winners and converting four of seven break point opportunities.

"It was a tough match".

The second set was more one-way traffic for the Latvian, who broke Veronica Cepede Royg twice at the start of the set, allowing her just one game before closing out her place in the semifinal. "They try to show their best because they have less pressure", the 20-year-old said after her first round match against Swede Johanna Larsson on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Dutch No 2 Richel Hogenkamp saw off 19-year-old Australian qualifier Priscilla Hon 6-3, 6-4 to move into her maiden WTA semifinal.
