Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett has chose to undergo season-ending knee surgery and will be placed on the injured reserve list, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The former TCU Horned Frog sat out most of last season after suffering a partially torn ACL injury in Week 4 against the New Orleans Saints.

"It was never right in my opinion, just watching him in practice", Lynn said this week, via ESPN.com. "But he's such a competitor (that) he kept wanting to go out, save himself and play the first week".

Schefter's report is the latest blow to Verrett, who has played in 25 of 64 possible games since the Bolts selected him No. 25 overall in the 2014 National Football League draft.

Craig Mager-who made eight starts last season-projects as Verrett's replacement along the boundary.

To help the corner heal and get back into football shape, the Chargers tried to take it easy with Verrett during training camp this year.

With Verrett sidelined for the remainder of the 2017 season, second-year cornerback Trevor Williams is expected to continue to start opposite Casey Hayward in Los Angeles' secondary.
