Idaho gas prices remain steady, but should drop soon

A steady stream of ships delivering gasoline to Florida's ports are helping to normalize supply levels in the southeastern USA, and gas prices are beginning to drift a little lower. That's still 49 cents higher than before the hurricanes hit. During that time in 2014, oil was (and usually is) the main driver of pump prices, as crude traded between $65-$75 per barrel. Now three weeks later, gas prices remain the same.

Retail gasoline prices in Texas and across the country declined this week as recovery continues from hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

"Gas prices are poised to plummet 30 cents", Jenkins continued. When reports that gas could rise 30 cents per gallon, nearly immediately, gas prices rose 30 cents per gallon. A large amount of Florida residents traveled to Georgia temporarily to ride out Irma, which resulted in a larger demand for gas in the state, causing outages at gas stations and higher prices, Townsend said. The state average is three cents less than a week ago, yet remains 52 cents more than this time past year.

The average price for a regular gallon in the metro Atlanta area was $2.74 Thursday, according to GasBuddy.com.

The least expensive gas price averages in Georgia are in Augusta-Aiken ($2.62), Columbus ($2.63), and Macon ($2.63).
