Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will complete a 1- or 3-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer's Association. The walk will take place on October 28 at Harbor Plaza in Suisun City.

Those who participated could walk by themselves or as part of a team.

Hundreds of people gathered Saturday at Lake George and then made their way to Bad Habit Brewing in St. Josephs, all in the name of finding a cure to Alzheimer's.

More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, the sixth-leading cause of death in the US and the only disease among the top 10 causes that can not be cured, prevented or even slowed.

The event is organized by the Alzheimer's Association Western New York Chapter, a nonprofit agency offering education, resources, training and funding for research to help all those impacted by dementia across the region. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Additionally, there will be entertainment for children, sponsor booths, and much more for participants. Morning show host Neil Boron was the 2016 walk chairman.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, more than 600 communities join together to fight the disease each year.

"All the people that have the disease that come out to walk for it always is very moving, and everybody is very gracious", she said.
