Premier League side Chelsea are close to selling Diego Costa back to Atletico Madrid and the deal could happen as early as next week.

The report suggests that Atletico are keen to sign Costa before the clash next week - despite their transfer ban and their inability to play him until January - they want him to return to full training as soon as possible having worries over his fitness.

"The agreement is pending the formalization of the contract between our club and the Spanish worldwide forward".

"The English club has authorised Diego Costa to travel to Madrid in the coming days to undergo medical tests and settle his contract with our club".

- The deal is subject to a medical and personal terms with the player.

The Brazilian-born Spain global, who joined Chelsea from Atletico in 2014, has accused the Premier League club of treating him like a "criminal" and has said he was willing to see out the remaining two years of his deal unpaid in Brazil.

Costa had always been touted for a reunion with Simeone, with whom he won the La Liga title in 2014 and has made no secret of his desire to return to Spain, finding himself at the centre of various controversies such as being pictured partying in an Atlético shirt.

Spanish media said that Atletico, who face Chelsea in the Champions League next Wednesday, had agreed a club-record fee of around 55 million euros ($65.55 million) to resign Costa. "I'm working with my players, I'm very happy to work with these players".

I have a special affection for the people at Chelsea.

His predatory instincts were on display when completed his hat-trick by finishing off a lovely team move in which Azpilicueta set Morata up for the fourth time this season by chesting the ball into his fellow Spaniard's path, thus leaving the No.9 with a tap-in.
