It had been previously reported that Cabrera wasn't expected to play Sunday following his early departure from Saturday's game with back tightness.

An MRI has revealed that Miguel Cabrera is dealing with two herniated discs in his back.

Cabrera's injury comes during the worst season of his Major League Baseball career.

A four-time AL batting champion, Cabrera is hitting.249 with 16 homers and 60 RBIs this season. His.399 slugging percentage is also more than 100 points below his career average (.553).

When the Tigers re-signed Cabrera to an eight-year contract extension through 2023, the concern was always that his impressive combination of performance and durability couldn't last forever. He will undergo an MRI, but the Tigers may elect to shutdown the 34-year-old slugger for the final week of the season.
