LIAM Cooper, the uncapped Leeds United centre half, has been recalled to the Scotland squad for the Russian Federation 2018 double header against Slovakia and Slovenia next week.

The uncapped defender has been included in his second squad for the World Cup double header against Slovakia and Slovenia, after first joining Gordon Strachan's pool in March.

Russell Martin and Steven Naismith, neither of whom are starting games for Norwich City, have been omitted.

The 26-year-old has impressed for Leeds, who sit top of the Sky Bet Championship after nine games.

And Strachan said: "He's playing well, he's playing in a winning side and he's a big influence on his side".

Steven Fletcher played 68 minutes of Wednesday's 4-2 loss at home to Steel City rivals Sheffield United on Sunday while Fletcher captained the Potters in their 4-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

"Probably should have had him in the last squad, to be honest, but I made sure we didn't make the same mistake again".

Elsewhere, both Darren Fletcher, the Stoke City midfielder, and his namesake Steven, the Sheffield Wednesday striker, are in the Scotland squad for the Group F games against Slovakia at Hampden on Thursday week and then Slovenia in Ljubljana three days later. Because of his performances, he is back in the squad.

"It's always good that the players come here on a high, and hopefully a lot of them are on a high".
