Formula One is losing one of its toughest races with the departure of Malaysia from the calendar after this weekend's grand prix, triple world champion Lewis Hamilton said on Tuesday.

Sauber F1 Team driver Marcus Ericsson is "recharged" after recording his fourth DNF of the season last time out at the Singapore Grand Prix.

Ericsson now sits last of the drivers that have competed in all races this season, and is the only driver to have scored zero points so far.

With 28 points in hand and just six races remaining, Hamilton's priority over the next two months will be avoiding the type of calamity which has so grievously damaged Vettel's hopes of landing a fifth world title. "I found the grip again focusing on the traction and squeezed him a bit to the left, which l think is completely normal for the guy on pole to do, to make it a bit less attractive for him into turn one", he explained.

Singapore offered some respite, since it was a night race, but this one is raced in afternoon heat with 80 percent humidity.

Vettel, Verstappen and Raikkonen all escaped punishment by the stewards after the Marina Bay crash, which was declared a racing incident.

A concurring Vettel added: "There are still a lot of races left and we have a strong auto". Though some, including Verstappen, questioned why Vettel moved so aggressively to defend his lead when neither driver involved is a title rival, the German says the clash will not change his mindset.

Red Bull has been improving in recent weeks and looked strong in Singapore qualifying, placing both cars ahead of Hamilton and Bottas. First of all it's done and second I think it was unfortunate for all three of us. "Obviously it's never good to be behind, I'd like to be in front but we're not so I'm not thinking about that", he added. The lights went off, obviously, we did our starts, everyone was trying to move at the start and it was the way it happened.

"We will see, I have a lot of races left and I'm not too fussed about the amount of points".
