Earlier in the day, President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Banwari Lal Purohit as Tamil Nadu governor. Admiral (Retd) Devendra Kumar Joshi is appointed Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands In place of Mr Mukhi.

Further, Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.) was named the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, while Professor Jagdish Mukhi was appointed as the Governor of Assam and Ganga Prasad as the Governor of Meghalaya. "Purohit has vast experience as MLA, MP, Minister and Governor and he should use that experience to put an end to the political confusions in Tamil Nadu".

Former member of Bihar Legislative Council Ganga Prasad has been appointed as the governor of Meghalaya.

The Governor of Assam until now, Banwarilal Purohit has been appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, replacing Ch Vidyasagar Rao who is the current Tamil Nadu governor.

It wasn't until 1975, however, that Jagdish Mukhi would become actively involved in politics.

However, hours after the appointments were announced, Tamil Nadu's Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) expressed its dissatisfaction. During the Emergency, Mukhi worked hard with the RSS to campaign against it. He has been representing the Janak Puri constituency continuously from 1980, winning seven times in the process. Under the BJP government in the national capital, he held the ministries of finance, planning, taxation and excise. In 1967, he did his MCom from Sri Ram College of Commerce under the Delhi University.

In 1995, he visited UK, Spain and Germany as a member of the committee of finance ministers, appointed by the then finance minister Manmohan Singh, to study the Value-Added Tax system for India.

Malik, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and known as a socialist leader, has been a minister of state at the Centre 27 years ago and has been changing the parties as he has been in Congress, Lok Dal and Janata Dal before joining the BJP.
