Dream Come True For Maguire

Maguire joined the action from the bench in the 83rd minute, replacing Shane Long.

It was a very satisfied Meyler who lead his side to an impressive 2-0 win over Moldova who spoke to extratime.ie after the game.

"We were totally focused on Moldova", said Meyler, "and we worked hard to get the result and now we can start thinking about Wales and we will be ready for it".

"It was something we had been working on in training and we exploited it".

"He works hard, he scores goals and it was a odd but awesome feeling to come on the pitch for your idol". "Longy (Shane Long) should have got two goals and on another night he would have finished them off".

"He's got an opportunity, he's come in and he's worked hard and obviously he got his reward tonight getting his global debut". It's hard to put into words.

Ireland dominated proceedings at the Aviva but Meyler was quick to defend what he had heard about Moldova before a ball was kicked on Friday night. They are no mugs but they didn't cause us too many problems and we restricted them to long-distance shots on goal.

We had targeted Groups H and F as the most likely to help us out, and last night's games went perfectly to plan: England beat Slovenia, while Scotland won at home to Slovakia.

A brace from Daryl Murphy earned Ireland a crucial three points in Group D, which sets up what could prove to be a winner-takes-all showdown against Wales on Monday night with a playoff position potentially up for grabs in Cardiff.

"You know it's nice for the lads to get the time, to get the minutes and to get the victory and the confidence will do us a world of good now heading into Monday".

"Coming here I was just looking forward to the experience of being in the dressing room and around the hotel and around these calibre of players that are playing week in, week out in the Premier League and players I have already played against in the Championship this season. We will watch the Wales game (away to Georgia) and then we will prepare for Monday".
