Global PC sales reached 67.2 million units in the third quarter of this year, marking a 0.5 percent decrease over the same period last year, according to a new report from International Data Corp.

Other mature and emerging markets also struggled, with the exceptions of Japan, Canada and Latin America.

While HP Inc and Lenovo shipped nearly the same number of units during the quarter.

U.S which is the top market for Apple Inc has shown a decline of 10.3 percent which is pretty major with the company only able to sell 14.7 million units during the quarter. Another Global PC vendor HP however was able to experience an increase in PC shipments ending Q3 2017.

In second place, Lenovo moved 14.5 million machines to capture 21.6 percent of the market in 2017's third quarter, marking a year-over-year improvement of.1 percent.

In Asia-Pacific, PC shipments reached 24 million units in the third quarter of 2017 - down 2.1 percent from the same period a year ago. It is the third straight year of dwindling sales, according to research firm Gartner. The company sold 4.2 million units during this year's third quarter for 6.2 percent of the market. During the same period a year ago, the company shipped 4.9 million units and accounted for 7.3 percent of the market.

"In China, the PC market is estimated to have declined by 5 percent in the third quarter of 2017, with more stability in the business market, particularly in large enterprises, than in the consumer space", Gartner said. "Emerging markets rebounded slightly more than anticipated, but overall results reflect the stabilization we expected following component and inventory adjustments". Lenovo experienced its steepest fall in United States shipments year-over-year since it bought IBM's PC division in 2005. We might not see a great fourth quarter and but can expect a small volume decline by the end of the year.
