In the lead-up to the meeting, there were widespread rumours and concerns at the suggestion that games on Saturday 23 December could be moved to Christmas Eve for live TV coverage.

Miles added the meeting with the Premier League's executive chairman, Richard Scudamore, had proved fruitful and he welcomed the opening of a channel of negotiation between the league and representatives from supporters of all 20 clubs.

Given his say, Wenger admitted at his weekly press conference that he would rather not kick off any later than 2pm if Arsenal are asked to play on Christmas Eve.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore accepted that the idea was nonsensical after fan backlash, with the main issue being travel over the festive period, as public services are limited.

"FSF led 20 fan reps into meeting with PL CEO R Scudamore this morning".

"R Scudamore commits to no PL TV KOs on Sunday mornings/nights. The Premier League have made genuine efforts to meet our requirements". However, given that Sky now shares broadcasting rights with BT Sport and considering the profile of a fixture between Arsenal and Liverpool, it had considered moving the game to 24 December.

"The Premier League today met club supporters' groups as part of its commitment to regular dialogue with fans", said a statement. Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore clarified that the December selections for live United Kingdom broadcast will be confirmed on 19 October, with the possibility the selection of New Year fixtures will take a further week to confirm.

There had been talks that a number of Premier League matches could take place on Christmas Eve this season for the first time in 22 years.
