18-year-old Mbappe broke onto the world football scene in incredible fashion last season at Monaco, helping Leonardo Jardim's side to a shock Ligue 1 title, as well as a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

His exploits have seen him join French giants Paris Saint-Germain, where he has formed a great partnership with Edinson Cavani and Neymar, following the Brazilian's move from Barcelona over the summer.

Rangnick claimed they had the Paris Saint-Germain star "as good as signed" after the forward's father offered him to the then-second division club.

Rangnick told German daily Bild: "We had Kylian Mbappe all but signed", when the club was still playing in Germany's second division.

"The problem was: at the time we had just parted company with (coach) Alexander Zorniger, that was just after the winter break in 2015".

'It was shortly after the winter break 2015, so at that moment we didn't know who our next manager would be and how everything would continue.

'Kylian's father said to me that if I could say for sure that I would become the new manager, he would entrust his son to me immediately. "But I couldn't give him that promise already in February [2015]". His replacement Ralph Hasenhuttl led the team to Champions League qualification last season.

Since moving to PSG, Mbappe has been involved in six goals from his first six matches, scoring three and assisting three more.
