Storm signals up over northern Luzon as 'Odette' intensifies

Storm warning signals have been raised over northern Luzon provinces as tropical depression "Odette" intensified as it moved west toward landfall on Thursday.

Impassable were Cagayan's Tawi overflow bridge in Peñablanca town, Bagusat and Bagunit overflow bridges in Baggao town and Alicaocao overflow bridge in Cauayan City, Isabela.

He also postponed the provincial development council meeting in Cagayan sub-capitol in Bangag, Lallo town, and advised local chief executives to be in their respective areas of responsibility.

A tropical depression (TD) heading its way to the northern Philippines threatens to gain strength and become a tropical storm, the national weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.

PAGASA estimates moderate to heavy rainfall within a 350-kilometer diameter of Odette.

Signal No. 1 was hoisted over the provinces of Cagayan Valley, including Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

Mindanao, on the other hand, should expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies, apart from isolated rain showers, mostly in the afternoon or evening. It packs maximum winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 65 kph, as it moves at a speed of 26 kph, it added.
