Terrorism threat: France will keep the border controls until 30 April

France will extend checks at borders with fellow Schengen members until April 30, the interior ministry said Thursday, citing the "persistent" terror threat to prolong controls in place since the November 2015 Paris attacks.

It added the Austrian land border remained the focus of irregular migration while more unauthorized entry was made by air from Greece.

On September 7, the European Union migration commissioner, Dmitris Avramopoulos, confirmed the controls, which exist at the borders with Sweden and Germany, would end on November 12 as "the conditions to approve them are no longer present".

Immigration minister Inger Støjberg wrote in a press statement that, despite the drop in numbers of asylum seekers arriving in Europe in comparison with a peak in late 2015, the borders of Europe's countries were still under pressure.

"We can not close our eyes to the serious terror threat against Denmark".

Although extensions to the measure have been granted several times, the border control had been scheduled to expire in November this year. "The government therefore finds it necessary to maintain border control for now", she said according to DR.
