Starnes immediately called the police.

Property owner Wayne Natt, 56, who has been charged with video voyeurism, told police that that he uses the cameras to record sexual activity at "swingers" parties that he holds at the property when not renting it out, but only with consent.

A couple from IN, renting an Airbnb on Longboat Key, Florida, said they noticed something weird about one of the smoke detectors IN the master bedroom.

This is hardly the first time Airbnb guests have discovered they were being filmed by hidden cameras.

Derek Starnes, from IN, was staying with his wife at the condominium IN Longboat Key, Florida, last month.

He says that when he took the smoke detector down, he found a camera recording onto an SD card.

The couple, who were "distressed by the situation", were quick to take it down to get a better look and realised it was actually a camera recording onto an SD card, pointing right at the couple's bed.

Still, what happened to the Starnes could have happened to anyone, and while one of the victims was able to identify the camera because he works in the information technology sector, countless other AirBnB users who may not have the same background may never know they are being surveilled.

Records show that Natt had an account with Airbnb for two years, along with more than 40 reviews for the room on 623 Cedars Court in Longboat Key. Starnes said he knows the video captured him walking through the bedroom naked.

Starnes said he hopes more victims will come forward. After Natt's arrest police said he gave them a statement with his lawyer present.

"[Natt] says that everyone videoed had knowledge he was videoing them", said Lt. "He said it was for recording sexual activity".

"As soon as we were made aware, we permanently banned this individual from our community and fully supported the affected guests", the spokesperson said. Police urging anyone who rented from Natt on Airbnb or was inside his condo to contact them.

"Our team has reached out to local law enforcement to aid them with their investigation of this egregious offense and we hope justice is served", Breit said. "We take privacy issues extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy against this behaviour".
