This is the new Aston Martin DB11 Volante, a stunning convertible sibling for the DB11 coupe.

"The new DB11 Volante captures those qualities perfectly and promises the kind of pleasure and enjoyment that can only come from driving an open-top Aston Martin". The 0-62mph sprint takes 4.1 seconds, with the auto accelerating on to a top speed of 187mph.

Then there's the convertible's tailored fabric top that comes in bordeaux red, black silver, and grey silver.

The folding fabric roof - which takes 14 seconds to lower - has been put through extensive testing, with Aston Martin engineers using special weather chambers to simulate 10 years of use within the space of a month. Power is fed to the rear axle, which features a limited slip differential, through an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic gearbox. There are two small rear seats, but these will be best reserved for children or adults in an emergency.

Equipment levels are pretty similar to the Coupe too, with leather, heated seats, parking sensors, 360-degree surround view, heated steering wheel and new wood or carbon fibre panels on the seat backs.

Convertible Astons - badged Volantes since the mid '60s - have traditionally accounted for half of all sales and the new DB11 Volante announced today (13 October) is expected to be no different, especially in sunnier countries around the world where gran turismo motoring gets no more glamorous than when behind the wheel of an Aston with its top down.

Aston Martin is known for doing personalisation rather well and if you hand the company's Q department enough money, you can indulge your imagination for as long as your cash will last.

The DB11 Volante costs from £159,900, which is a £15,000 premium over DB11 V8 coupe and £2,000 more than the V12.
