Astros-Yankees: 5 things to watch in ALCS

It is a clash of traditions: the 27-time World Series champion New York Yankees facing off against a team still looking for its first title in its 55-year history. Keuchel had a 1.12 WHIP with 125 strikeouts in 145 2/3 innings in the regular season. But shortstop Didi Gregorius was awesome on Wednesday, hitting a pair of home runs in his first two turns against Kluber to put NY up 3-0. NY is also 6-2 in their last eight during game one of a series and 20-8 in their last 28 overall.

The Yankees will be going with RHP Sonny Gray in Game 1 of the ALCS. Judge and Altuve are two of the best offensive talents in the game of baseball, but the way they go about their craft is so different, and both players are a lesson in why it's impossible to evaluate in absolutely set ways.

After an 8-4 Wild Card game win for the Yankees, they now find themselves down two games to the Cleveland Indians in their division series matchup.

Houston's pitcher for Game 1 is left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who has bludgeoned the Yanks a bunch of times, including the 2015 AL wild-card game. In his 162.2 innings and 10-12 record this year, Gray put up a 3.54 ERA with 153 Ks.

New York's bullpen is a game-changer.

-David Robertson came out of the bullpen in the fifth to give NY the first 2 2/3 innings of 4 2/3 innings of no-hit relief. Frazier, who went from first to third base on the hit, saw a miscue in the field and sprinted home with another insurance run. He allowed one unearned run on five hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over six innings in a win over the Yankees earlier this year. Houston will also run out Justin Verlander (15-8, 3.36), Brad Peacock (13-2, 3.00) and Charlie Morton (14-7, 3.62).

Didi Gregorius hit three home runs during the ALDS for NY, while Greg Bird added a pair of home runs. An extra pitcher or two may come in handy. The team that made the Fall Classic out of the American League in 1921?

The "Baby Bombers", as the Yankees' young core is often called, have already exceeded expectations, and a loss to the Astros in the ALCS would not be a disappointment. Many are former dud teams that got higher-up draft picks, which gave them phenomenal players, but it's something greater than that too.

After winning four elimination games of the playoffs, the Yankees have something going on here.

The Astros are the nation's sentimental favorites after what Hurricane Harvey did to Houston, and they have never won a World Series.
