Mike Laidlaw has been paramount to works such as the Mass Effect trilogy, the Dragon Age franchise, and the infamous Jade Empire title. Jade Empire's fan acclaim and Dragon Age: Inquisition's high Metacritic (89 on PS4) score?

In his post, he states that even though "it's with a mix of emotions, its time for him to move on". Laidlaw has worked on blockbuster role-playing game series Dragon Age (a fantasy romp) and Mass Effect (a sci-fi franchise).

There's no word on what Laidlaw will be doing next, if he remains in the gaming industry at all. For now, he says he wants to spend some time "reconnecting with all the unbelievable games and worlds [his] peers have created", and he plans to share those experiences on Twitch and Twitter.

It is not immediately clear if Laidlaw's departure from BioWare was by his own choosing. We also asked about his replacement and whether or not this will impact any ongoing projects.

"To everyone who's taken the time to share feedback and experiences, your incredible cosplays and artistic creations: thank you".

Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw has made a decision to part ways with Bioware. Your passion inspires and I look forward to our next adventure together.
