Google Unveils Job Training Initiative With $1 Billion Pledge

"We think the internet should allow everyone to become a developer, entrepreneur, or creator, and we build our platforms around that", declared Pichai.

Google says over the next five years it will spend $1 billion on nonprofit organizations helping to raise education levels around the world and commit its employees to a million hours of volunteer work doing the same.

During an address in Pittsburg today, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced several initiatives aimed at boosting opportunity and jobs in light of how technology is expected to replace many in the future.

The Grow with Google initiative will work with US communities to provide job skills and small business growth advice.

The Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator will receive $10M in funding from Google to train 1.2M people in digital skills and career opportunities over three years.
