Police on Friday claimed that it arrested Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant, who was involved in a grenade attack on Works Minister Naeem Akhtar last month in which three civilians were killed.

People took to the streets after Indian police and troops launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

The gunshots were heard in the Tral forest area of Pulwama district of South Kashmir.

Dar had hurled a grenade at the cavalcade of Roads and Buildings Minister Naeem Akhtar in Tral town on September 21, killing three civillians and injuring over a dozen others.

The spokesman said Dar had again joined JeM after the grenade attack. They reacted to a cordon and search operation (CASO) that has now been lifted. "During the search operation, a Jaish militant Gulzar Ahmad Dar R/o Tral was arrested", a police spokesman said. "The fire was retaliated but taking advantage of the dense forest, terrorists managed to escape from the spot", the spokesman said.
