This could theoretically result in problems if adults are in the seats in case of an accident, though Tesla says that they haven't seen anything related to this issue in the field, or in any customer auto as of yet. The problem, which was discovered in internal testing, involves incorrectly adjusted seat cables.

"We are doing this out of an abundance of caution, because even though we have never seen it happen, if the cable is not properly adjusted, the seat back on the left side of the second row seats could move forward during a crash", Tesla wrote in the email. That's what Tesla issued today.

The carmaker also says it can actually address the recall entirely using its global mobile service fleet, meaning that no one should have to technically go into a service location to get it fixed.

Tesla Inc. is recalling about 11,000 Model X sport utility vehicles due to possible issues with their second-row fold-flat seats.

No incidents have been reported by customers, but the company is offering free repairs either through its mobile service or at a service center. Tesla estimates the fix will take approximately 10 minutes.

In messages sent to Model X owners, Tesla offered to tend to inspecting and adjusting seats using its mobile service, giving an option of bringing vehicles into service centers.

We are emailing to inform you of a proactive action Tesla is taking to ensure your safety as a Model X owner. Note that this issue only affects Model X with fold-flat second row seats built between October 28, 2016 and August 16, 2017 and does not affect any vehicles with monopost seats. There haven't been any reports of seat issues in the field.
