Pak troops open fire along LoC; 1 soldier and civilian killed

Pakistan army launched a fresh offensive on the Line of Control (LOC) on Thursday when they fired indiscriminately on Indian forward positions, killing a jawan and a civilian porter in the Kirshna Ghati (KG) sector of Poonch district in Jammu division.

The Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively. "The exchange of fire was on in Khari Karmara village on the LoC", said an officer.

During firing, Sepoy T K Reddy, 21 and Defence Porter Mohd Zahir, 22 suffered serious injuries and died, the spokesperson said. "No casualty or damage has been reported from our side", the sources said.

On October 6, Pakistan troops had opened fire in Baba Khori and other areas in Rajouri district, and on October 4, three Army soldiers were injured in unprovoked firing in the Poonch sector.

The latest ceasefire violation comes nine days after Pakistani army killed 35-year-old Naik Mahendra Chemjung of 7/11 Gorkha Riffles.
