Amid the growing Harvey Weinstein scandal, Lin-Manuel-Miranda and playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes are calling on The Weinstein Co.to let them take the film adaptation of their Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights elsewhere. "I hope the Weinstein company has enough grace, in the wake of these revelations, to respect my stand as a woman, and allow us to extricate In the Heights from them".

The company once run by disgraced executive Harvey Weinstein, and now watched over by his brother, cofounder Bob Weinstein, is no longer planning to be renamed and operate independently, according to The Wall Street Journal. Now Hudes and Miranda want out.

"Harvey Weinstein's sexual predation is despicable enough, but combined with his staggering power it's insidious, even devilish", Hudes, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her 2012 play Water By The Spoonful, wrote in a social media post today (read it below). "She speaks for us both". Universal Pictures had been developing a film adaptation of In the Heights before The Weinstein Co. announced production previous year.

More and more women have been coming forward with other allegations of harassment and assault by Weinstein since The New York Times published an exposé on October 5. Kate Beckinsale, Heather Graham, Cara Delevingne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Mia Sorvino, and Lauren Sivan are just a fraction of those who've shared their experiences. The request comes in the week following an increasing series of sexual assault and harassment allegations against film and Broadway producer Harvey Weinstein. He built an empire on this. "My stomach is in knots".

She continued, "Harvey did not act alone". He had powerful enablers in his community and at the top tier of the criminal justice system. "I hope there is an ethical investigation into Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance's role in enabling Harvey Weinstein's [alleged] illegal behavior".
