Shamanov said, in remarks carried by Russian news agencies, that Moscow could deploy additional Iskander missile systems in its western areas, including the Kaliningrad exclave.

The news did not sit well with Russian Federation, which claimed the move threatened its security and warnd it would consider adding nuclear-capable Iskander ballistic missiles on its side of the border as a deterrent to the US, the magazine stated.

Shamanov also alluded to the USA "quietly" deploying an entire armored division in Poland.

The head of the Russian parliament's defense affairs committee, Retired Gen. Vladimir Shamanov, said Thursday that Russia could take retaliatory steps in response to the USA increasing the number of its weapons in Poland. "We will surely not turn a blind eye on this". Not just personnel, but combat equipment. "For instance, the group of Iskanders, including that in Kaliningrad, may be increased", he speculated.

Russian Federation accuses the United States of illegally increasing troops in Poland and the Baltic States.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation said in a statement on its website in June that it has "fully abided" by the act.
