1985's Clue, written by John Landis and directed by Jonathan Lynn, is adored by many. In a report obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is reportedly in negotiations to acquire the rights to the film.

The goal of the game is to create the dominant community on the ever-changing fictional island of Catan amid scarce resources. Each settlement and city on the island moves the player one step closer to winning the game.

According to Variety, the film will be produced by Gail Katz, whose credits include Pawn Sacrifice, The Perfect Storm, and Air Force One. She'll be joined by Dan Lin, whose credits include IT and The LEGO Movie. That task has fallen upon Blaise Hemingway to write. The latter was behind the quite successful releases of The Lego Movie and It.

The game, designed by Klaus Teuber, has sold more than 25 million copies in 38 languages and has sparked a renaissance of tabletop games worldwide, with hundreds of new games introduced every year from thousands of designers.

"We're excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of Catan to life", Katz said. He added that he was also a huge fan of the game and he believed on the endless opportunities that the movie will inspire its viewers, Entertainment Weekly reported. Thus, Sony sees vast potential, and has hopes of constructing a possible multi film franchise from the game's world.

Perhaps, the movie producer feels privileged by the opportunity to share " Settlers of Catan" with billions of people around the world.
