Tom Brady on playing Sunday: 'I'll be there'

We've listed protecting Brady as a goal pretty much every week this season, and at some point, the Patriots have to actually do it.

Brady and company will go on the road in Week 6 facing off against the Jets at MetLife Stadium. "I'll be there Sunday".

The 40-year-old Brady leads the National Football League with 1,702 passing yards. But he has clearly missed wide receiver Julian Edelman, who is out for the season after injuring his knee in a preseason game. Only significant injuries and ones where there is a risk to miss time must be included. New England is seemingly a fixture to play for a conference title, having made the AFC title game 11 times over that span. The Patriots have not played well of late.

Speaking of those rings, it is hard to at least slightly appreciate the historical significance of what Brady is doing. In comparison, the best quarterbacks of Brady's generation, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner, just to name a few, have combined for six Super Bowls since Brady's first start in 2001.

At age 40, he is arguably the top quarterback in the NFL.

Brady missed practice on Tuesday for the first time all season, but is expected to play against the New York Jets on Sunday, October 15.

At his current rate, Brady is going to break several records in the next couple of years.

Last season, Brady threw for five touchdowns and zero interceptions in his two games against the Jets, both of which resulted in Patriots wins.

Despite the fact that no one will write off the Patriots, New England clearly isn't the same dominant team of old.
