Ontario college negotiators bargaining with OPSEU say they are disappointed by the union's latest proposal.

The union representing faculty at Ontario's 24 public colleges has set a strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. on October 16.

Picket captain training is slated for this evening (Thursday) and union officials expect to meet with Mohawk senior management on Friday to work out strike and picket line protocol.

OPSEU, representing faculty at Ontario's 24 public colleges has set a strike deadline of 12:01 a.m. on Monday.

Hornick says the employer "is not moving forward on the issues faculty care about most _ even in the case of no-cost items like academic freedom or longer contracts for contract faculty".

The colleges are offering a four year contract extension that includes a 7.5 percent pay raise over the term of the agreement with no concessions.

Niagara College said it recognizes it's a stressful time for students and it will do everything it can to ensure their academic program of study is completed.

"During a strike, we're encouraging all students to get caught up on their assignments and projects", Robb said "All campuses will remain open during the strike and supports will be available for students who need help".
