San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich ripped President Trump for claiming that past presidents didn't call the families of fallen service members, calling Trump a "soulless coward".

Dave Zirin of The Nation reported the news, noting Popovich's comments were in regard to Donald Trump claiming former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush failed to call the families of soldiers who had died.

It's been a recurring message from the Spurs coach, who Monday sounded off on the President.

"The traditional way, if you look at President Obama and other presidents, majority didn't make calls, a lot of them didn't make calls", Trump said. All I can do is ask my generals. They'd write letters. And some presidents didn't do anything. "I do a combination of both".

"I've been amazed and disappointed by so much of what this President had said, and his approach to running this country, which seems to be one of just a never-ending divisiveness". "But his comments today about those who have lost loved ones in times of war and his lies that previous presidents Obama and Bush never contacted their families, is so beyond the pale, I nearly don't have the words".

Gregg Popovich is one of the greatest National Basketball Association coaches of all time, but in recent weeks he's been in headlines because of things going on off the court.

"This man in the Oval Office is a soulless coward who thinks that he can only become large by belittling others", Popovich said in an interview with The Nation. Even when he was still President-elect, the coach didn't stay silent.

In May, shortly after Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, the coach told reporters, "To this day, I feel like there's a cloud, a pall, over the whole country, in a paranoid surreal sort of way that's got nothing to do with the Democrats losing the election". It's got to do with the way one individual conducts himself.

Of those who work under the president, Popovich said they are all aware of how unfit Trump is and that that, "This is their shame most of all".
