We've been waiting a long time for Microsoft to give its Surface Book a proper upgrade, and it finally arrived in the form of the - you guessed it - Surface Book 2. While, there are no major updates, there are some important additions.

Two years after the release of Microsoft's Surface Book, the company has officially unveiled its predecessor - the Surface Book 2. This laptop will weigh more and it is harder to carry it around, compared to previous products.

The Surface Book 2 will be "twice as powerful as the new MacBook Pro", said Yusuf Mehdi, the corporate vice president who oversees Windows and Device marketing. It is similar to the tread of a tank and it should increase the horizontal depth of the base of the laptop.

However, Engadget stated that the heavier build of the Surface Book 2 can be useful for an impressive graphics setup.

This might be true after all, as the 13-inch and 15-inch Surface Book 2 laptops use the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and 1060 GPUs, respectively. This difference will be also noticeable when it comes to price. To compare the 15-inch Surface Book 2 with the larger Mac Pro in terms of graphics, the latter is inferior with its AMD Radeon 555 and 560 graphics cards.

Microsoft also sells the less powerful Surface Pro and Surface Laptop in the line, and a sophisticated desktop computer, the Surface Studio. Meanwhile, it is uncertain if the 15-inch Surface Book 2 will be available for pre-order in cities outside the US.

Panay revealed in the blog that the 13-inch Microsoft Surface Book 2 can be pre-ordered starting on November 9 in the USA and "additional markets", suggesting that the pre-ordering period will be opened in other parts of the world, including the UK.
