He said it was a cowardice act.

He was shot from close range by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Kailash Nagar area.

Ravneet Bittu in his statement alleged that Canada- and Pakistan-based "pro-freedom" elements were behind the recent killings of "Pro-Hindutva" leaders and those from other faiths.

Ludhiana: As per media reports the Ludhiana police on Wednesday (Oct. 18) recovered a bike supposedly used by unidentified gunmen who shot dead RSS leader Ravinder Gosain at his residence on Tuesday (Oct. 17). Dhoke said adequate security had been deployed near RSS shakha venues in Ludhiana.

In the immediate aftermath of the murder, the Punjab police constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police-rank officer to probe the killing.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh had also raised the issue with Punjab chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, who assured him of action soon.

The Chief Minister, who met a delegation of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders here on Thursday, announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for Gosai's family and a government job for one of his four children.

The spokesperson went on to say that the investigations into similar incidents that took place in the past indicated that assailants' handlers were operating from foreign soil.

No effort would be spared to catch the culprits and bring them to book in cases of targeted killings, which were clearly aimed at destabilising the state and destroying its peace, said the chief minister.
