Is Cam Newton boycotting media over female reporter?

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has declined to speak to reporters for the second consecutive day.

Panthers spokesman Steven Drummond said Thursday the former league MVP gave no explanation as to why he wouldn't participate in his weekly news conference prior to Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

"I thought he had a press conference today, but apparently not", Rivera said.

Newton's decision comes two weeks after he apologized for comments he said were "extremely degrading and disrespectful to women".

Rodrigue has not tweeted since October 6 and has not had a byline in the Observer since the fallout from the confrontation.

(The Big Lead had contacted the Charlotte Observer and Rodrigue last week to see if she was still employed and if so, when she was returning to work, but got no response).

"The Newton-Rodrigue squabble began October 4, when the reporter asked the quarterback about a wide receiver".

"It's amusing to hear a female talk about [wide receiver] routes", Newton said in response, a sexist crack that would lose him a sponsorship (Dannon), turn him into a media punching bag and eventually force an apology from him.

"My dad is being super racist as we pass through Navajo land", she tweeted in December 2012.
