Ansarul Shariah chief among eight killed in Karachi encounter: Rangers

Police officials said the paramilitary troops and CTD personnel jointly carried out a targeted raid in Raees Goth of Baldia Town after receiving an intelligence tip-off about presence of ASP militants the area.

Sindh Rangers on Sunday said that the recently emerged militant group Ansarul Shariah Pakistan (ASP) has lost its competence in carrying out a terror plot in the city after last night encounter in which eight of its militants were killed. On seeing the personnel, the terror suspects opened fire at them and tried to escape, they added.

Five terrorists were killed and three were seriously injured. The Rangers spokesperson said two Rangers soldiers and a CTD official were also injured in the gun battle who were driven to hospital.

The identities or the affiliation of the slain terrorists was immediately not known.

He added that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the hideout.

In the light of footage, Col Faisal said that one of the attackers could be seen wearing a police uniform while other, Sarosh, in a white T-shirt.

Two suspected militants affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were also claimed to have been arrested.
