Wallabies coach Michael Cheika insists everyone wins from Israel Folau's decision to skip the end-of-season tour and take a complete break from rugby.

Folau will play for the Wallabies against the Barbarians on Saturday but that will be his final match for the year, Cheika said in a bid to freshen him up for the 2018 season.

Folau has started every one of Australia's 10 tests this year but will now miss matches against Japan in Yokohama on Nov. 4, Wales in Cardiff on Nov. 12, England at Twickenham on Nov. 19 and Scotland at Murrayfield on Nov. 26. "He doesn't get a lot of chance to do that", Cheika told reporters on Sunday.

"We discussed it and we thought it might be better for him to have a break and come back fresh next year".

Folau had the opportunity to play club rugby in Japan over the summer as part of his flexible contract with the Australian Rugby Union. It will get other players to take responsibility without him there.

"With Israel, I've chose to play him (against the Barbarians) because I've decided that he won't be going on the tour at the end of the year", Cheika told reporters.

"He's been under the microscope every single day since he's come to rugby".

Meanwhile, Rob Simmons has been cleared of any major injury to his neck after he was stretchered from Suncorp Stadium early in the second half.

Slipper, McCalman, Kane Douglas and Kyle Godwin have been included in the 28-man squad for the match, along with young Queensland back-rower Liam Wright who earns his first call-up.

OUT: Scott Sio, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Sekope Kepu, Rob Simmons, Adam Coleman, Michael Hooper, Sean McMahon, Will Genia, Bernard Foley, Kurtley Beale, Reece Hodge, Marika Koroibete, Tevita Kuridrani (all rested), Izack Rodda (shoulder).
