In a shocking move, the Giants appear to be moving on from longtime pitching coach Dave Righetti and other coaches.

Assistant hitting coach Steve Decker was reassigned to the role of special assistant, baseball operations, and Mark Gardner was reassigned to serve in a special assignment role to assist in pitching evaluations. The Giants had not lost 90-plus games since 1998.

Friday, when announcing that David Bell has replaced Shane Turner as vice president of player development, general manager Bobby Evans said he wasn't prepared to make an announcement because some coaches were being considered for managerial jobs.

According to MLB.com's Chris Haft, Righetti was the longest-tenured pitching coach in the big leagues. To put that in perspective, he was the only pitching coach Matt Cain ever had, who was a 20 year old rookie in 2005 and who retired at the end of this season.

Successors have yet to be named for Righetti, Gardner or Decker, though Murray hears that the Giants could have interest in former major league pitching coach Jim Hickey.
