Galveston police are investigating the discovery of a small boy's body found washed ashore on a beach.

Someone spotted the body in the surf about 5:30 p.m., police said. "We are also working with surrounding agencies including the US Coast Guard to ascertain whether they have received any reports of missing persons that would match this description", the department said in a press release Friday. The medical examiner has not released a cause of death. "It's very hard as a police officer, as an agency and as a community to have the death of a small child lying in the sand and to not have any answers to give anyone", said Galveston PD Capt. Joshua Schirard, adding that foul play has not been ruled out. Investigators describe the boy as about three to five years old, about 3 feet tall, slender, possibly Hispanic with black hair and brown eyes.

Investigators said they were looking into a missing person's case in Hawkins County, Tennessee, involving a boy whose picture is similar to the composite sketch of the boy found dead in Galveston. He also says it's very hard to have the death of a child and not have answers to give to anyone.
