The show followed a young American Latina who embarked on various adventures with her monkey companion Boots, facing riddles, puzzles, and characters (like the famous fox Swiper, who had a penchant for theft) along the way.

The Dora the Explorer movie is expected to be released in 2019. Michael Bay, he of the most explosive explosions and bulgiest bulging biceps, is set to produce a live-action Dora the Explorer movie. Undeterred, Paramount's attempts to bring Dora to the big screen continued, and it appears as if meaningful progress is finally being made.

Michael Bay has just signed on to produce a live-action Dora the Explorer film, based on the popular Nickelodeon children's series of the same name.

Paramount Players has tapped Nick Stoller, who you know from Neighbors, Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, to write the script.

Dora the Explorer the series ran from 2000 to 2014, airing 174 episodes in total. The fact that Michael Bay would be involved, well that's a mystery only Dora could solve. The producer/director has a reputation for gung-ho action and biblical amounts of explosions.

The movie will reportedly see Dora as a teenager who moves to the city to live with her cousin, Diego. Stoller also has a background in family fare too, however, having written the screenplay for 2011's The Muppets and co-directed the 2016 animated film Storks. Both the Transformers and TMNT movie franchises were critically derided and Bay in particular caught the full brunt of fans who grew up with the originals.

The concept for the project was initially developed in 2015, though at the time Mary Parent was on board as producer.
