To counter Reliance Jio's JioPhone, other leading telecom operators and domestic handset makers have already updated their feature phone catalogue by launching affordable 4G-enabled phones in the Indian market. After buying the phone with Rs 2,899, the consumers will have to recharge their numbers (Vodafone) with Rs 150 every month, under which the users will get voice calling and data services. Users will get the rest Rs 1,000 on completion of another 18 months.

We also have an equally pocket friendly device from Airtel which Micromax Bharat 1 will have to face a tough challenge from along with the competition from Jio Phone.

The company said the phone has been priced at Rs 999 however this was inclusive of its cashback offer and excluding the purchase of monthly recharges on Vodafone's network.

"We are delighted to partner with Micromax to democratize the 4G smart phones at a never before price of under Rs 999".

While the method of Jio's refund is not known, Vodafone's refund will be through its mobile wallet - M-Pesa. Note that, customers will need to make recharges worth Rs. 2,700 in the first 18 months to get Rs. 900 cashback, and then make recharges worth Rs. 2,700 over the next 18 months to get Rs. 1,000 cashback, totalling Rs. 1900 cashback for the 3-year period.

"This will help fulfill the aspirations of several million phone users across the country, who desire a smartphone but can not afford one". Apart from this, India's largest telcom operator, Airtel had launched the Karbonn A40 Indian in collaboration with Karbonn.

Speaking about its new launch Khosla added, "It (Bharat2 Ultra) will also encourage current non users of 4G to upgrade and enjoy a richer user experience with Vodafone SuperNet 4G". The home grown company partners with BSNL to launch this 4G feature phone, which comes at Rs 2,200.

Micromax recently unveiled Bharat 1 to take on JioPhone. With the Bharat 1, Micromax (together with BSNL) is aiming "at providing a compelling 4G phone option to India's 500 million plus population that is still Internet unconnected".
