The accountability court on Tuesday adjourned proceedings to declare former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's sons proclaimed offender in three corruption references.

The NAB deputy prosecutor general (DPG) informed the judge that the accountability watchdog's team had tried its best to get the two accused to present themselves for the court hearings but they continued to remain absent from the court. Later, the court separated the trial of Hassan and Hussain from other accused - Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Safdar and Capt (retd) Safdar - and declared them as absconders.

He further told the court that details of Hussain Nawaz's four bank accounts have also been received in which 4272 euros, 3992 dollars, 207 pounds and Rs 3.82 lac are present.

The court was further informed that both brother did have any property in areas handled by the Lahore Development Authority and Defence Housing Authority.

On October 2, the accountability court issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of both brothers for failing to appear in court.

The investigation officers of NAB also recorded their statements in three references against the Sharif family.

With the expiry of the deadline, the court will officially declare the two proclaimed offenders as a result of which the properties of the scions of Nawaz family may be seized at any given time.

Last week, the ousted prime minister was indicted separately in each of the three references.

Earlier, the judge had directed for initiating the process of declaring them proclaimed offenders.

On October 12, the NAB following the orders of the court pasted the court's proclamation order on the main gate of the Sharifs' residence in Model Town and Jati Umra.

Notifications to appear before the court had been sent to Nawaz's sons at their houses and were put up on the judicial notice board.

Later, the court ordered the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to freeze the assets of Hasan and Hussain.
