The Philadelphia Eagles have signed veteran offensive tackle Will Beatty, who formerly played for the New York Giants, appearing in 88 games, and starting 63 from 2009 to 2016.

"Philly on Tuesday signed Will Beatty, a York native who hasn't started a game since he served as the Giants" left tackle in 2014, to a one-year contract. He had his best seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15 for NY, but missed the entire 2015-16 season due to rotator cuff surgery. Hart was waived to make room for Beatty.

The move adds experienced depth at a vital position for the Birds.

The Eagles were in the market for an offensive lineman after left tackle Jason Peters tore his ACL and MCL on October 23 against Washington, ending his season.

Second-year player Isaac Seumalo has been the backup swing tackle since the injury and the Eagles brought back Taylor Hart after the injury for some more insurance. The 35-year-old Peters is a nine-time Pro Bowler in his ninth season in Philadelphia, and their offensive line has suffered in his absence.

A former second round draft pick of the Giants in 2009, Beatty was the primary left tackle protecting quarterback quarterback Eli Manning for the last five seasons.

It is likely that Seumalo will be the backup tackle once again this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys, and going forward, at least until Beatty gets comfortable with the Eagles offense, and the Eagles feel comfortable with him.
